If you have lone workers or those who work away from the workplace, such as security, cleaners, or maintenance staff, a personal issue kit enables basic first aid to be provided quickly and easily. If you have employees who are at risk of a severe life-threatening bleed or in the event of a mass casualty attack, a critical injury pack is required as standard first aid kits are not appropriately equipped.

The HSE now recommends employers provide haemostatic dressings and tourniquets in their first aid provisions, and appropriate training for employees, where working with an identified risk of obtaining severe bleeding injuries.

Critical Injury Pack The critical injury pack is designed to provide immediate, life-saving first aid to someone who has sustained a severe bleeding injury in the workplace. Recent Health and Safety Executive guidance now recommends employers provide haemostatic dressings and tourniquets in their first aid provisions for employees working with an identified risk of obtaining severe bleeding injuries. The critical injury pack is designed to be issued one per person (obviously only to employees exposed to the risk). The injured person then has their pack used on them, rather than a first-aider using their pack on someone else.
