APPENDIX EXPLANATION Fluorescent Colours

Fluorescent materials are designed to absorb ultraviolet (UV) light and emit it as visible light, making the wearer more visible, especially in low light conditions. These materials are crucial in high-visibility clothing, as they enhance the wearer’s visibility, thereby increasing safety in the workplace.

Fluorescent Yellow

Yellow is the most common colour used in High-Visibility clothing due to its excellent visibility in various light conditions. Fluorescent yellow is particularly effective in urban and industrial environments as it provides a stark contrast to the majority of natural and man-made backgrounds, ensuring that wearers stand out.

Fluorescent Orange

Orange is known for its strong visibility and contrast against natural settings and is widely used in road and railway work environments. The colour is effective in distinguishing workers from their surroundings, especially in areas with greenery, making it a popular choice for outdoor and forestry settings.

Two Tone Colours

Two-tone High-Visibility garments combine two different colours, typically one fluorescent and one darker shade, to enhance visibility while also hiding dirt and stains in high-contact areas. This design improves the functional life of the garment and can help to delineate different areas of protection, ensuring that the most critical areas for visibility remain bright and noticeable.
